Farmer's padlocks

Farmer Erich Pehrsson’s clever padlocks

Starting in the 17th century, farmers in many places in Sweden began developing a range of artisan crafts, particularly ironworking, textiles, and woodworking, produced by family members on the farm.

One example was farmer Erik (Erich) Persson (1707–1794), in the village of Bollsjö in Dalarna. The Nordic Museum’s collections include some of the padlocks he designed and manufactured himself. His two sons, Anders and Jakob, also learned and practiced their father’s trade.
